Just In Time For Thanksgiving

Max and I left daycare very late tonight...closed the place down! I got there and Max and his friend Paige were having a ton of fun, so I spent some time chatting with one of Max's teachers and got lots of updates on what he's enjoying doing and learning at school these days.

As were were heading out of daycare, I realized it was past Max's usual dinner time, I had nothing prepared at home and Joe was gone hunting. This trifecta apparently causes the Golden Arches to instantly appear in my mind. Off to get a Happy Meal we go!

As we're sitting down at the dinner table at home, I unwrap Max's burger, he looks at it and says "Thank you God, Amen." Looks up at me and again says "Amen!" a little bit louder.

I'm glad Max is learning both to be thankful and to appreciate the most delicious cheeseburger available!

Bustin' at the Seams

When Max was little it used to be more common to have "rough" nights, when he'd wake often. The times he did sleep soundly all night we'd try to replicate everything we could possibly remember from the day before to help ensure another perfect night (eating time, eating amount, nap times & length, pj’s worn, etc). Note to Mom & Dad for the next baby...it never mattered!

Now that Max is older, when he doesn't sleep soundly at night we rack our brains to think of what caused the odd bad night.

So when Max woke at 5am one morning we thought “did he have too much to drink before bed and wet through, is a new tooth coming in, etc etc”

Joe went in to check on him and get him back to sleep, and when he comes out of Max's room, I ask if he has any idea why Max woke so early.

Joe said the zipper on Max's pajamas split. Max was literally bustin at the seams!

Brush With Foodie Fame

At the tender age of 19 months, Max is the 1st in our family to enjoy a taste of The French Laundry in Yountville, CA. We were enjoying a gorgeous Napa Valley day with the Kaer family and Auntie Jamie at Bouchon Bakery, and Joe was holding Max up to watch the bakers making rolls. The head baker thought Max was darn cute and brought Max a roll fresh from the oven. She said Max was tasting one of the rolls that they exclusively bake and serve at The French Laundry! Might not seem like a big deal, but at $250/person for dinner I'm not sure Joe or I will ever taste one of those rolls (and by the way, Max didn't even share a bite with us, which I'm guessing means it was pretty darn tasty).
After our time at Bouchon, we headed over to Napa Style, a homegoods/fine foods shop by acclaimed chef Michael Chiarello. Again, Max's cuteness grabbed the attention of said Chef as he was heading out of the kitchen and it allowed Joe and I the chance to have a 20 second interaction with Chef Chiarello. Max was loving the salami and bread that was being sampled and Chiarello said "Just like my kids!"

Tongue Tied

So funny to hear a tongue tied year and a half year old. Max has taken to saying "MommyDaddy, MommyDaddy" over and over recently. Says both our names together real fast. Sometimes "MommyDaddy" and other times "DaddyMommy," but always together.

The other day the three of us were driving someplace and Max was babbling "MommyDaddy, MommyDaddy" in his car seat.

Except it suddenly sounded like this:

“MommyDaddy, MommyDaddy, DaddyMommy, MaddyDomm...hahaha”

Max got entirely tongue tied and the split second he realized he mixed up the letters/sounds for Mommy & Daddy he just burst out laughing. And so did MommyDaddy.
